The left side displays quail in flight amongst rolling hills with two on the lockplate and one in a continuation of the scene on the pivot pin, the right side shows pheasants in flight over a lightly wooded field and also has a pair on the lockplate and a lone bird on the pivot pin, the underside has a pair of alighting mallards heading into the cattails, and the triggerguard shows a mallard in flight over a pond. All of the scenes are cut in exceptionally high detail with "C. Tomasoni" signed on the triggerplate for Italian Master Engraver Claudio Tomasoni. The gun features a single trigger, tang mounted selector switch, and manual tang safety. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with matching engraved fittings and pistol grip stock with right hand palm swell and a Kick-Eez recoil pad. Includes a wood and leather takedown case containing ten extra choke tubes and two snap caps. Barrel and stock measurements (U/O): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at 18.7mm (.736 inches) and both measured .739 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.029 inches; 1 7/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/16 inch drop at heel; 13 1/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 8 lbs. 4 oz.
Very fine, retaining 95% plus original blue finish with some light rub wear mostly along the lower barrel, 99% original coin finish, and light handling evidence. There is some chipping at the rear of the left lock; otherwise, the wood is very good with a few scratches, a coat of varnish applied, and worn but well-defined checkering. The case is very good. Mechanically excellent.
