This particular Registered Magnum (reg. no. 303), is one of only 735 Registered Magnums manufactured with an 8 3/4 inch barrel and one of only six documented Registered Magnums with a factory peep sight. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped on August 15, 1935 and delivered to The Soo Hardware Co. of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan with an 8 3/4 inch barrel, blue finish, King red bead 5/64 inch wide front sight, King no. 80 peep sight, standard grips, and grip adapter. The revolvers configuration, including the King red bead front sight and extremely rare King no. 80 peep sight, are also confirmed in the included S&W and Soo Hardware Co. order forms and S&W invoice. The King no. 80 peep sight is again confirmed in the accompanying S&W letter addressed to The Soo Hardware Co. of Sault Ste. Marie where the company proudly proclaimed, "This has been assigned Registered #303, and you may be sure that it will receive our very best attention." The right grip panel is unnumbered. Matching serial numbers appear on the butt, cylinder, and ejector shroud. Provenance: The Gary Garbrecht Collection; The Ray Cheely Collection; The Dave Ballantyne Collection
Excellent, retaining 95% original blue finish with holster type wear, a cylinder drag line and handling marks. 95% original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. The grips are fine with minor dings on the bottom and overall crisp checkering. The worn and water stained box is very good. Mechanically excellent. An extremely rare .357 with factory documented peep sight that is missing from even the most advanced S&W Magnum collections. This is a must-have for the serious S&W collector. No Magnum collection can be complete without this revolver!
