The revolver is one of only 500 of this model believed to have been manufactured in .357 Magnum. The revolver has target sights, a barrel marked "COLT SHOOTING MASTER .357" stamped on the left side and the two-line Colt legend on top, Rampant Colt on the side plate, and silver Rampant Colt medallion checkered grips. The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped on July 8, 1937 to Robert Gonzalez (sic) of Mexico with a 6 inch barrel in .357 Magnum, blue finish (currently parkerized), and type of stocks not listed. This was a single gun shipment. See the previous lot for a Smith & Wesson .357 Registered Magnum Revolver with rare factory tuskoid grips that was also shipped to Robert/Roberto Gonzalez of Mexico in August 1937. Based on S&W records, Gonzalez was with the Armeria La Nacional (The National Armory) in Mexico City. Provenance: The Gary Garbrecht Collection; The Ray Cheely Collection; The Dave Ballantyne Collection
Very fine, retaining 97% plus of the professionally applied parkerized finish with some light edge wear, some minor handling marks, and a cylinder drag line. The replacement grips are fine with a small surface chip near the bottom (right panel) and some wear along the top of the checkering. Mechanically excellent.
