"GEO. C. SCHOYEN DENVER. COLO." marked on top of the replacement barrel between the scope mounting blocks indicating the rifle passed through the hands of renowned western gunsmith George C. Schoyen (1845-1916) in his Denver shop. The barrel is fitted with a globe front sight with spirit level, and scope target blocks. There is no provision for a rear sight on the barrel, and a mid-range adjustable Vernier peep sight is fitted to the upper tang. No caliber markings visible on the barrel. The Stevens frame is marked "50" on the front flat (requires removal of the forend for viewing). Fitted with a deluxe walnut Schnabel forend and pistol grip schuetzen buttstock with a high comb, cheek rest, and casehardened Swiss buttplate. Includes false muzzle.
Fine as rebarreled by Schoyen, with scattered light freckling on the barrel, and 80% plus vivid original case colors on the frame, and 85% original blue finish on the tang peep sight, and patterns of case colors visible on the buttplate with scattered moderate freckling. Wood is also fine with defined edges, a repaired crack in the left of the wrist, and numerous surface cracks on the left of the buttstock that remains otherwise sound. Mechanically excellent.
