This .22-250 rifle is a perfect blend of firearms high art and a great all around utility cartridge and would be as at home hunting Wyoming antelope as it would be on safari in South Africa. Blued steel barrel with a hood ramped beaded blade front sight, barrel band with light engraving on the sling swivel, "JAMES PURDEY & SONS, LONDON." marked on the barrel, 2007 dated London nitro proofs, island rear sight with two gold center line leaves, and a wedge of scroll engraving at the breech. The coin finished left handed Mauser type action displays outstanding deep floral scroll engraving over an attractive highly contrasted dark background with the engraving extending to the ejector box, knurled bolt knob, and the scope mounts and rings which are holding a Swarovski 1.5-6x42 Habicht scope. The bottom metal shows the same deep scroll engraving surrounding "JAMES PURDEY & SONS/LONDON" and "22-250" in banners on the magazine floorplate. The triggerguard is signed with what appears to be an "MJN", which unfortunately has not been identified. The pistol grip stock shows exceptionally fine figure and multi-point checkering at the forend and wrist. The stock features a horn forend cap, engraved coin recoil lug, an engraved coin trapdoor grip cap, shadowline cheekpiece, gold inscription oval marked "C.J.C.", rear sling swivel, and checkered bare butt. Included is a full length wood and leather case with Purdey interior trade label.
Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue and coin finishes with limited handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock. The scope's main tube does have a few dings and scratches; however the optics are sharp. The case is very fine. Mechanically excellent.
