With aesthetic and mechanical parallels to both the U.S. Thompson submachine gun and weapons like the Lewis Gun, the American 180 M2 uses a top mounted spring loaded "platter" magazine to feed an open bolt selective fire mechanism, with aluminum receiver construction and fine hardwood furniture. Capable of a 1200 RPM cyclic rate, the low recoil of the 22LR cartridge makes for a weapon that's far easier to control (and far easier to feed, cost wise) than many automatic weapons. The 180 was evaluated by the U.S. Army for use in close combat; while unsuitable for general infantry use, within "knife fighting range" the 180's extreme precision would allow multiple rounds to bore through a single point of armor or structure, giving a penetrating power beyond what one would expect from the humble Long Rifle cartridge. Blade front and adjustable peep rear sights, with a set of protective wings and cooling fins on the barrel, threaded muzzle, non-reciprocating charging handle, and a fine hardwood forearm, pistol grip and detachable buttstock. Included with the lot is a canvas soft case, two extra magazines (one standard, one extended plastic), one extra magazine spring unit, 9 inch barrel with A1 style flash hider and pistol grip forearm, extra short forearm, and assorted parts. Some of the parts are for weapons other than the American 180.
Very fine, with 90% of the blue and anodized black finish, showing mild edge wear, cycling wear, and handling marks. The wood is very fine, with mild scuffs, dents and flakes. As currently configured, the baseplate of the extra steel magazine is not compatible with the weapon; a set of replacement baseplates was supplied but not installed. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
