The accompanying factory letter states this Registered Magnum no. 3092 was shipped on October 27, 1937 and delivered to H&D Folsom Arms Co. of New York City with a 6 inch barrel, extremely rare Whitex front sight, wide notch rear sight to match, blue finish, and checkered walnut Magna grips. In the factory letter S&W historian Roy Jinks noted, "This is the first Registered Magnum I have ever lettered with the Whitex front sight." The revolver features the Whitex front sight and wide notch rear sight to match as listed in the factory letter. The Roper target grips were added after the revolver was shipped. This is one of only 839 Registered Magnums manufactured with a 6 inch barrel. The revolver has standard S&W markings with "REG. 3092" stamped on the inside of the frame and matching serial numbers on the butt, cylinder, and ejector shroud. Also includes documents (copies) related to this Registered Magnum as provided by the S&W Historical Foundation: a letter from H&D Folsom dated September 17, 1931 stating a customer desires the Whitex front sight, H&D Folsom Arms Co. request for the revolver, S&W's response to H&D Folsom Arms Co.'s request, the September 20, 1937 order form for the revolver with the Whitex and matching rear sight listed, the September 20, 1937 dated order form filled out by S&W with Whitex and matching rear sight listed, a requisition for one Whitex front sight, and the shipping invoice for the revolver.
Excellent, retaining 97% bright original high polish blue finish with some scattered light edge wear and a light cylinder drag line. The hammer and trigger retain 98% vivid original case colors. The grips are very fine with minor handling marks mostly on the bottom and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A well-documented 6 inch barrel S&W .357 Registered Magnum Revolver with extremely rare Whitex sight that will be a welcomed addition to any S&W collection.
