This rifle has a swamped, seven-groove rifled barrel has a dovetailed silver blade front sight, notch and folding leaf rear sight with ornate finial, Paul Ignazius Poser's "PIP/stag" maker's mark (second quarter of the 18th century), beaded border at the breech, and a "Z" on the short tang. The lock has a detailed scene of two hunters talking with a tree to their rear and a rock face ahead with a fleeing ibex. The bottom of the rocks is signed "J N Hund." The lock is also signed "J.G.D." ahead of the pan and has scroll engraving throughout and a castle scene on the dog spring stirrup. The furniture is brass and has scroll engraving, including on the large side plate. The stock has some staghorn, bone, and pearl inlays on the butt and a horn buttplate. The patchbox lid has some floral carving. An iron spanner is included. Provenance: The Collection of Joe M. Wanenmacher Jr
Very good with silver-gray patina on the lock and barrel along with some areas of brown patina and minor oxidation, aged patina on the brass, replacement parts, and general mild overall wear. The stock is also very good and has some cracks, chips, and repairs; an ill-fitting replacement patchbox lid, and mild scratches and dings. The lock has not been tested. The set triggers are mechanically fine.
