Description:

This Wilkinson made volunteer rifle has an outward appearance resembling the British military Brunswick pattern rifles, but is chambered in the updated .577 caliber; the standard British military service round in the latter part of the 1850s. It has a fixed notch front and folding leaf rear sight, bayonet bar on the right, "WILKINSON" marked on top of the barrel, "LONDON" marked lock, sling swivels mounted on the forend and underneath buttstock, volunteer rifle nomenclature "C/11/VC" marked in three lines on top of the brass buttplate and serial number "671" marked on the rear of the buttplate. Includes a Pattern 1848 Brunswick brass handled bayonet with the unit marking "96 E 20" on the hilt.

Rating Definition:

Very good with scattered light pin-prick pitting on the iron surfaces and otherwise sharp markings on the barrel and lock. Brass exhibits a bright patina. Stock is also very good with numerous scattered dents and scratches, and mostly defined edges. Mechanically excellent. Included bayonet is fine.
