At first glance, this revolver looks like it was one of the first Colt Pocket Navy revolvers off the line in the 1860s, but its actually one of the first off the line in the late 1970s. Reproduction Colt percussion revolvers came in demand in the mid-20th century, and Colt themselves began producing them in 1971. The Pocket Navy model was reintroduced in 1979 after Lou Imperato took over production. Colt continued to inspect the revolvers. This revolver appears to be the first one produced as a factory test/experimental prototype. It has serial number "X1" on the various components. The barrel has a small brass cone front sight and "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA" stamped on top. The frame has the classic "COLTS/PATENT" marking. The cylinder has the iconic stagecoach roll-scene. The left side of the trigger guard has the "36 CAL" marking. Provenance: The Supica Collection
Very fine with 98% plus original blue, casehardened, and silver plated finish; attractive aged patina on the silver, light cylinder drag lines, and minimal handling and storage marks. The grips are also very fine and have some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
