Measuring 17 inches overall, the dagger is fit with an 11 inch trefoil blade with a spear point and faint etching. The hilt is either bone or antique ivory construction, carved with leafy scroll motifs overall, and a crowned Polish coat of arms on one side. The sheath is of similar construction in a roughly conical profile, with raised floral and scroll work and carved busts of the following Polish kings; Sigismund I (aka Sigismund the Old, reign 1506-1548), Sigismund II Augustus (reign 1548-1572), Stephen Bathory (reign 1576-1586) and Sigismund III Vasa (reign 1587-1632). Provenance: The Dr. Gerald Klaz Collection
Very good. The blade has been cleaned, with patches of oxidization and shallow pitting. The furniture is very good, with a chip absent from the tip of the sheath, minor age cracks and handling marks, and good detail.
