Description:

The Winchester Model 1876 "Centennial" rifle was Winchester's first large game rifle and provided significantly more firepower than its smaller 1866 and 1873 rifles. They were well-suited to hunters in the West who sought out more stopping power for hunting. This rifle was manufactured in 1885, the second year for the .40-60 W.C.F., and has a nickel-silver blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, standard markings, integral dust cover guide rail, an adjustable single set trigger, and smooth rifle forearm and stock (compartment empty).

Rating Definition:

Good with strong traces of original blue finish remaining on the barrel and magazine tube and fading to smooth brown patina, mix of gray and brown patina on the frame and furniture, some mild pitting, and general mild overall wear appropriate for a 19th century hunting rifle. The forearm is also fine and has minor dings and scratches. The revarnished buttstock is good and has some chipping at the toe and a crack from the rear of the upper tang back to the left side of the comb. The dust cover does not consistently retract when the action is cycled, and the trigger does not set; otherwise, mechanically fine.
