Michael B. Suchka of Valley Engraving, Inc. and Thunder Valley Machine Co. has produced a number of high quality small scale and full sized replicas of Hotchkiss and Gatling crank guns. This appears to be the first of his 2 inch caliber Hotchkiss revolving cannons given the "0001" serial number. This massive revolving cannon has 29 1/2 inch long barrels designed to fire the impressive 2 inch/37mm Hotchkiss cartridges. The action is marked "THUNDER VALLEY HOTCHKISS/PALMYRA, NEBRASKA U.S.A/MODEL 1880 CALIBRE 2 INCH/SERIAL NUMBER 0001" on the left, "HOTCHKISS REVOLVING CANNON/2"/CALIBRE" on the back, the "HOTCHKISS PARIS" crossed cannons, belt, and bomb logo on top; and "RKP/TVH" along with crossed swords and what is probably a linstock on the right. There is also some simple scroll and other engraving patterns on much of the metal components, an eye design along with the word "OIL" twice at the front by the muzzles, and hand engraved numbers for the barrels at the breech. The carriage has red painted wood and black iron fittings.
The Hotchkiss is very fine and has mild overall wear including some oxidation. The carriage is mostly good and has general mild wear; however, the wheel hubs have cracked. It appears to be mechanically excellent. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
