The receiver of this rifle was originally manufactured in 1939, before being professionally upgraded to deluxe short rifle style configuration by Turnbull Mfg. Co. The upgraded 20 inch full octagon barrel is marked with the two-line address/patent dates on the upper flat and the caliber marking is on the upper left flat at the breech. Winchester factory oval proofs are present on the barrel and receiver at the breech. It is fitted with a globe front sight and a Marble's filler in the rear sight dovetail, and a Lyman peep sight is fitted to the upper tang. The three-line Winchester trademark is on the upper tang and the serial number is on the bottom front of the receiver. It is mounted with a finely figured short rifle-length 2X, "H" pattern checkered forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel shotgun buttplate. The included Turnbull invoice lists the upgrades including the new barrel, 2X wood and checkering, as well as the polishing a finish.

Very fine as professionally upgraded to current configuration, retains 99% plus of the Turnbull applied blue finish and case colors with only the slightest handling marks. The wood is also very fine with only the slightest handling marks and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
