Description:

This is an example of a Model 1893 Borchardt semi-automatic pistol that was manufactured by the Ludwig Loewe & Company in Germany. It is complete with various accessories including all four matching magazines, matching wooden shoulder stock with leather holster, cheekpiece and oiler, all contained in a restored Borchardt style leather bound case. The Borchardt pistol employed the unique toggling breech mechanism which was eventually adopted and refined by Georg Luger and was used throughout production of the Luger pistol from 1900 through 1942. The top of the chamber area is marked in three lines "WAFFENFABRIK/LOEWE/BERLIN." The top of the toggle mechanism carries the German patent markings of "D.R.P./No. 75837". The right side of the barrel extension is marked "SYSTEM BORCHARDT PATENT". The left side of the breechblock, toggle mechanism and barrel extension are all marked with the early German commercial "crown" over "B" and "U" proofs, and the left rear section of the barrel is marked with the full German commercial proofs that consists of the "crown" over "B," "U," and G" over "172,28". It is fitted with the original checkered walnut grips along with the original varnished border around the checkered panel in the center section of each grip. This example includes the original matching wooden shoulder stock, all four original, matching wood based magazines, one spare dummy magazine with the brass oiler on the bottom, an original black leather holster with attaching straps, the original matching cheekpiece numbered "932", and the small tin of lubrication grease with its leather pouch. It is all stored in a very nice recovered, relined, possibly reproduction leather case.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall, edge and high spot wear overall, some light spotting on the grip straps, and light wear on the rear lug of the receiver where the stock attaches. The smaller parts retain 95% of their heat blued finish overall. The grips are in excellent condition overall with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides and only a couple minor light pressure dents in the center of the left grip. The shoulder stock and cheekpiece are both in excellent condition, with the attaching iron and screw retaining 95% plus of their nitre blue finish overall. The dummy magazine is fine with scattered dark blemish spots overall. The black leather holster is in very good condition with most of the black leather surfaces of the holster still intact just showing minor/light age cracking overall. The stitching on the toe end and approximately 1 inch at the end is still intact, while the remainder of the stitching has come loose. This is a very high condition holster as the leather surfaces are usually flaked off completely. A very nice, high condition, all original Borchardt rig.
