Description:Lang percussion rifle cane with a metal shaft doubling as the barrel. To ready for fire, the barrel can be unscrewed from the top section, allowing access for percussion cap loading at the rear end. Removal of the brass ferrule allows access for loading from the muzzle with powder, patch, and ball. After screwing the barrel back on, pulling the T-shaped handle away from the barrel section exposes the trigger and cocking mechanism. A cocking key is inserted into the top slot of the firing mechanism and pulled back until it clicks, readying for fire. The handle serves as a buttstock and the barrel is equipped with a blade front and flip-up two-leaf rear sight. The body of the firing mechanism is marked "Patent,/J.LANG.7HAYMARKET,/LONDON./No 173." Includes felt lined wood case with Joseph Lang London gun manufacturer label under the lid, extra smoothbore barrel, flask, ramming rod, mold, cap tin, and tools including the cocking key. Provenance: The Larry Mattson Collection
Rating Definition:Fine with some light handling marks and chips on the exterior. Mechanically fine. The case is fine with exceptional original interior label.
