Manufactured in 1975 and subsequently embellished by Master Engraver Ken Hurst. Hurst was one of only two people since World War II to be a master engraver at both Colt and Winchester in their lifetime. This Single Action Army features near full coverage of extremely intricate floral scroll engraving with seven gold inlaid animals, with a gold band at the muzzle, two at the breech, one which follows the engraving at the front of the cylinder, and two at the rear of the cylinder with six inlays on the front face between each chamber, a gold border is inlaid on the frame, hammer, ejector rod housing, bottom of the grip frame, and back strap. The work on this revolver shows the skill of a true master of the craft, especially in the subtleties which only reveal themselves as each section is studied. The grips feature a scrimshawed scene on either side. The left side depicts a stampede of bison through a prairie and the right a soaring eagle. Includes a matching engraved and inlaid .45 ACP cylinder and Colt display case. Provenance: The Dr. Robert Azar Collection
Excellent overall as embellished by master engraver Ken Hurst, retaining 99% plus blue finish and case colors with minimal handling marks and crisp engraving. Mechanically excellent. Case is very good with some minor storage and handling marks as well as a residue on the lid. An excellent example of a master's work.
