Manufactured from 1887 to 1890. Grade 3 factory engraved in broad floral scroll with areas of punch dot background between scrolls by S&W Master Engraver Oscar Young. Standard Smith & Wesson markings and the scarce 5 inch barrel. Matching serial number on the barrel, cylinder, and butt. Includes period hardwood case with 21 .38 S&W cartridges in the block. Excellent, retaining 97% original silver and 85% blue on the trigger guard. Mild handling evidence and some flaking at the muzzle. The pearl grips are very fine with some age lines on the right panel. The case is very good with light wear. Mechanically excellent. A very scarce full silver plated factory engraved antique Safety Hammerless with the seldom see 5 inch barrel length in a fine period case.
