This is an early example of a Model 1816 pistol manufactured by Simeon North of Middletown, Connecticut, between 1817 and 1820. The lock plate is marked "S. NORTH/U[eagle shield]S/MIDLN CON." The breech end of the barrel is stamped with "P/US" on the left side, a deep condemnation mark on top ( a good sign of original flintlock configuration!), and "RJ" on the right above the vent. A blade front sight is fitted to the front section of the barrel band. The left stock flat has an "LS" cartouche, and a "3" is stamped on the right above the pommel.
Very good with dark brown patina throughout, mild oxidation, and general moderate wear. The otherwise fine stock has some flakes at the edges of the mortises, moderate overall wear such as some scratches and dings, and a thin crack on the left at the rear lock screw. The cartouche and inspector mark are legible. Mechanically fine.
