The lock is marked "1863/TOWER" at the front, with the "1863" double stamped, and an unlettered crown cipher at the rear. The upper left of the barrel has the standard export proofs while the top of the barrel appears to be marked with a "crown/circled E" proof and an unrecognizable mark. The stock is marked with a large "1" on the left a circular B.S.A. cartouche on the right, along with a series of intertwined circles. These rifles were widely used throughout the British Empire, as well as being exported in large numbers for use by both sides during the American Civil War.
Very good, retains traces of original blue and case colors mixed with a deep artificial plum brown patina and an attractive antique patina on the brass. The nipple is broken/absent. The wood is very good with a few minor cracks around the flat and upper wrist, some minor chips, minor dings and scratches throughout, and clear cartouches. Mechanically fine.
