The flat top Damascus barrel has three-groove rifling, a dovetailed bead style blade front sight, "5" on top ahead of the two-leaf rear sight, "CHAS. OSBORNE, LONDON" on top behind the rear sight, and border engraving on the breech which has a platinum plug. An engraved nickel-silver plate is on the edge of the stock at the breech. The upper tang and furniture have some light border engraving. The lock has border engraving and is signed "CHAS OSBORNE." The walnut half-stock has checkering on the forend and wrist, a horn forend cap, and a sling swivel eye on the bottom. The rifle weights 16 lbs. 1.2 oz.
Fine as partially restored with nearly all of the high quality brown finish remaining on the barrel along with distinct twist patterns, a blank installed where the front sling swivel was fitted, traces of original case colors and otherwise brown patina on the lock and furniture, minor oxidation, crisp recut checkering on the stock, some small chips at the edges, dings and a spliced repair at the toe, and general minor wear. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
