Very Fine New York Engraved Smith & Wesson .38 Single Action 2nd Model Revolver with Pearl Grips and Box
108,255 of these revolvers were manufactured in 1877-1891. This revolver has the standard markings and features and is engraved with classic scroll engraving with punch dot backgrounds, intertwining wavy lines, and a star behind the hammer. The green box has a Smith & Wesson label on top, directions for use label inside the lid, "NICKEL/PLATED" stamped on the bottom, and a non-matching serial number "BABY RUSSIAN" written on the bottom at the other end.
Very fine with 97% plus original finish, crisp markings and engraving, some slight spotting, and general minor wear. The grips are also very fine with attractive natural coloration, a small group of small speckled patterns at the heel on the left, very slight chips on the top on the right panel, and minor handling and storage wear. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine and has mild storage wear including some splits at the corners. Provenance: Dr. Gerald Klaz collection.
