Description:

The included Westley Richards factory letter references an incorrect serial number "9631" and offers no information on the rifle. The included ledger copy however lists the correct serial number of "6931" and identifies it as a double rifle in .577 with a date of "July 6/90". This date indicates the rifle was originally chambered for the .577 Black Powder Express cartridge, and subsequently reproved for the .577 Nitro Express round. Blue steel chopper lump barrels with beaded blade front sight with flip up hood, smooth concave rib marked "THAKUR TALA - 1934" in gold inlay, three leaf (one standing, two folding) express notch rear sights on a raised quarter rib, barrels marked "WESTLEY RICHARDS. LONDON/.577 NITRO 75/570 3" CASE", automatic ejectors and Birmingham nitro reproofs on the flats. Casehardened treble grip box lock action with doll's head extension top fastener, gold inlaid "WESTLEY RICHARDS" maker's marks on the sides, Birmingham proofs on the water table, dual triggers, and automatic sliding tang safety. Checkered splinter forearm and pistol grip stock with blue steel grip cap, raised cheek piece, blank initial oval, and solid rubber recoil pad.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored with 95% bright blue finish, some thinning to an artificial brown patina just behind the front sight, some scattered light pitting under the blue, and clear markings. The action has 85% plus vibrant restored case colors with slightly light markings on top ahead of the lever, and mild edge wear. The replacement wood is also very fine with crisp recut checkering, some small scattered dings, and slightly oversize recoil pad. Mechanically excellent.
