Desirable World War II M1C Springfield Armory Garand sniper rifle originally manufactured March 1945 and eventually sold via the Civilian Marksmanship Program in August 2011. The M1C was developed in late 1944, and is considered the standard issue sniper rifle during WWII and the Korean War. Eventually replaced by the M1D sniper which could be produced in-house by fitting a newly manufactured M1D sniper replacement barrel to existing M1 Garand rifles. Approximately 4,000 were produced during WWII/Korea, with hundreds provided to NATO allies in the 1950s/1960s, and thousands destroyed in the 1980/90s by the U.S. government. It was overhauled/rebuilt and is now fitted with an "SA-6-55" dated barrel. It is fitted with mixed WWII and post-war Springfield Armory manufactured parts. It has a WWII narrow base gas cylinder, a round top gas cylinder lock, and a four-slot gas plug. It has a matching scope base, numbered "3639480" on the underside, that is retained with three screws and two taper pins. It's fitted with an unnumbered gray parkerized Griffin & Howe scope mount. The mount is fitted with an original, blued, WWII M82 Lyman sniper scope with the single post crosshair and rubber eyepiece. The scope tube is marked on the left side, "TELESCOPE M82/SERIAL NO. 32218/STOCK NO. 84374". The walnut stock has a boxed DOD cartouche on the left side with a circled "P" proof in the grip area and a set of walnut handguards. Included with it is a Certificate of Authenticity from the CMP and a bore tag that reads, "ME 1+ and TE 3".
Very fine as arsenal refurbished with 95% of a black parkerized type metal finish remaining overall, edge and high spot wear, and light finish loss on the right side receiver rail and top of the bolt. The wood components are all in fine arsenal refurbished condition with a matching dark walnut tone overall, clear cartouches/proofs on the sides, and only minor handling marks. The G&H mount retains 95% of its arsenal refurbished finish. The scope retains 98% of its blued finish overall with nice clear sharp optics. A very nice looking M1C sniper rifle with documentation.
