These rifles are significant in the history of U.S. martial arms as they saw widespread use in the latter years of the Civil War and were the last U.S. regulation muzzle loading arms. It is properly dated "1864" on the lock and barrel and has an "ESA" cartouche along with what appears to be a "WTT" cartouche on the left stock flat.
Fine with light patina and minor oxidation on the otherwise bright barrel and furniture, 60% subtle original case colors on the lock, and general minor wear. The stock is very fine with crisp cartouches and has dark oiled finish, scattered scrapes and dings, and a few slight flakes at the edges of the ramrod channel. Mechanically excellent.
