Manufactured in 1923. Dovetail blade front and elevation adjustable rear sights on a barrel stamped with the two-line nickel steel marking and caliber designation on the left side. A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The left side of the receiver has the two-line address/patent dates marking, and the upper tang has the three-line model/trade mark information. The nicely figured deluxe walnut forearm and straight grip stock are checkered, the forearm has an ebony tip insert, and the buttstock has a hard rubber Winchester buttplate. This rifle is pictured and identified in George Madis' "The Winchester Book" on page 468. According to Madis, "special wood was provided for only 1 of each 900 [Model 1895s]" manufactured by Winchester. The shotgun buttplate is also a rare special order feature.
Exceptionally fine, retaining 85% plus bright original high polish blue finish with smooth brown patina on the balance. The wood is very fine with scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive example of a desirable deluxe grade, takedown variation of the Model 1895 rifle.
