This is one of the scarce "Z" prefix M1903A4 Sniper rifles manufactured by Remington Arms Company for the United States Army in World War II. These were the standard sniper rifles during WWII, into Korea and even the early days of Vietnam. The receiver has the properly offset "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" marking on the left side with the serial number "Z4000712" on the right side. The barrel is stamped "RA/Ordnance Shell and Flame/9-43". It is fitted with the correct blued "R" marked sniper rifle bolt. It is fitted with the stamped barrel bands, trigger guard and follower, all correctly stamped with the "R" for Remington arms. It is fitted with one of the current but correct (Redfield type) reproduction/replacement scope bases with a set of semi-split rings. The scope is a late post war production Lyman Alaskan with the "A" serial number prefix, as issued on some 1903A4 and M1C sniper rifles during Korea as a replacement scope. It has the correct post and cross-hair type reticle, same as the later M84 scopes. It is fitted with a late war fat-grip, "C" type replacement walnut stock. The stock has been restamped with "RA/cross cannon cartouche/FJA" proofs on the left side with a restamped circle "P" proof in the grip area behind the trigger guard. Includes a copy of the 2002 dated CMP invoice (stock, scope, rings and base added after it was purchased).
Very fine with a mix of some original blued components, (bolt assembly, front barrel bands and scope) with an original factory parkerized receiver/barrel, arsenal parkerized trigger guard and lower barrel band. The stock and handguard are both in excellent condition with nice clear distinct cartouches and proofs. The scope retains 98% of its original blue finish with a hint of edge wear with crystal clear optics.
