Manufactured in late 1894/early 1895 and subsequently arsenal modified to 1896 style. Blade front and folding ladder rear sights, with the "1894." marking on the receiver. The stock bares a faint cartouche (possibly 1895), with a 2nd type double strap upper band, no provision for a ramrod in the forearm, short upper handguard, "D/60" stamped on the comb, brown leather sling and a flat trapdoor buttplate. With an 1896 dated bayonet, 16 1/4" OAL, 11 5/8" bright blade, smooth grip and iron sheath with belt hanger.
Fine as arsenal modified, with 70% of the blue finish, showing some areas of brown and gray patina, mild wear on the muzzle and high edges, and scattered handling marks. The receiver and magazine show a fine dark casehardened pattern. The reoiled stock is very good with faint markings, dents and scratches. Mild cracks and scuffs are present on the sling, the bayonet is very good as cleaned/polished, and the sheath shows some dents and splitting. Mechanically excellent.
