Description:Manufactured in 1863 under contract with the U.S. Ordnance Department with a German silver blade front sight, the "NEW-YORK" address, standard patent markings and cylinder scene, hammer notch rear sight, three-screw frame and back strap cut for a shoulder stock, government inspection marks, a cartouche on each side of the grip, and matching serial numbers, including the grip.
Rating Definition:Fine overall with 40% plus original blue finish on the barrel, traces of original blue on the cylinder, strong patterns of original case colors on frame, aged patina on the trigger guard, strong original blue on the trigger, 30% original blue on the back strap, smooth gray and brown patina on the balance, some slight oxidation/pitting, general marks and scratches, dings from hammering on the butt of the grip frame and very good grip, and generally distinct markings. Mechanically fine.
