This Boss & Co. pair are conversions from percussion guns and feature single bead sights on the smooth concave rib marked "BOSS & Co. 73 ST. JAMES'S STRT. LONDON". The Damascus steel barrels are also marked "1" and "2" respectively. Both guns have standard Birmingham black powder reproof marks dated to 1968 with fine English scroll engraving on the receivers, hammers, non rebounding locks, and standard maker's marks on each lock, as well as a rotary underlever. The trigger guards and levers are also engraved with hunting dog scenes on the guards. Checkered single wedge fastened forearms with engraved fittings, all matching consecutive serial numbers on the major components, and straight grip stocks with gold inscription escutcheons with dual crests and smooth, flat steel buttplates. Bore and stock measurements for the "A" gun are: 2 1/2 inch chambers; cylinder/cylinder chokes; bore diameter at 9 inches from breech, right proved at .740, measuring .748, left proved and measuring at .751; wall thickness .030/.030; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 1 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 1/2 inches.
Fine as refinished. The barrels have an applied brown patina overall with slightly light rib markings, small dings, and traces of light pitting. The receiver and locks have a mottled brown patina with traces of original case colors visible around the hammers, some spotting, and light oxidation. The wood is good with a chip absent the right side of the forearm at the wedge, crisp recut checkering, repaired break at the wrist, some small fill plugs, and scattered small dings. Mechanically good.

Barrel and stock measurements are: bore diameter at 9 inches from breech, proved at .751 and measuring .752/.753 inch; wall thickness .030/029 inch; 2 1/2 inch chambers; open chokes; drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 inches; length of pull 14 3/8 inches, weight 7 lbs. 4 oz.
Fine as refinished. The barrels have an applied brown patina overall with traces of light pitting, faint Damascus pattern, and slightly light rib markings. The receiver and locks have an overall gray/brown patina with well-defined engraving and refinished trigger guard and lever. The refinished wood is also fine with well-defined checkering, small break on the underside of the forearm, repaired crack to the right wrist, and small dings. Mechanically very good.
