Features three barrels in line with somewhat uneven bores averaging around .60 caliber and measuring around 12 inches in length. A spurious U.S. marking is stamped on the barrel. A large artillery piece type flintlock is fitted on the right and is designed to be triggered by a crossbow style tickler. It is mounted on a wood frame with a large iron spike for fitting it to a ship, wall, or carriage. Volley guns were primarily used in defense against massed attackers back in the 15th-early 17th century before they were generally replaced by the 18th and 19th centuries with artillery pieces firing canister or grapeshot for the larger versions and massed infantrymen armed with muskets or sailors with blunderbusses for the smaller versions though experimentation with individually loaded groups of barrels continued and resulted in iconic weapons like the Nock volley gun and French mitrailleuse.
Good with heavy oxidation and wear, dry wood with attractive age cracking. The mechanism does not function. Make for a wonderful conversation or statement piece in your gun room!
