According to the accompanying 1975 dated letter from Winchester customer service representative Don Brinton to noted Winchester collector Petter Murray, "This gun was a sample made up in smoothbore for .410 shotshells." Winchester released a .410 bore shotgun based on the Model 94 rifle lever action design to the market in 2001 and called it the Model 9410. The serial number on this gun dates to 1974, nearly 30 years before the Model 9410 was put into production. Beaded front and elevation adjustable rear sights. The Winchester Model 94 barrel legend has "410 2 1/2" highlighted in gold. Other gold highlighted markings include "410" on the bolt and "WINCHESTER 410" on the upper tang. The forearm and straight grip stock are checkered. The buttstock has a plastic factory shotgun buttplate.
Excellent overall, retaining 99% plus original blue finish showing minimal handling evidence and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: Peter & Patty Murray Collection; The Robert M. Lee Collection.
