Description:Only around 5,000 Remington-Keene firearms were manufactured in several configurations in 1880-1883. This prototype example is an interesting combination of the Army Model and the Hunter's Model. It is possible that it was a special order from Remington, though the writer cannot find another similar example. It bears the standard three-line address and patent information on top of the bolt and "IP" marked upside down on the barrel. It features standard Army Model sights and Hunter's or Frontier Model barrel bands. The barrel bands and buttplate are case colored. These were the first bolt action firearms manufactured by Remington as production items. The only bolt action Remington manufactured prior were the small number of single shot rifles in the late 1860s which had a similar bolt design.
Rating Definition:Excellent, retains 90% plus blue finish and traces of case colors with the balance a smooth grey patina. The wood is also excellent with a few scattered minor dings and dents. Mechanically excellent.
