Manufactured in 1887. This rifle has a factory nickel plated receiver and magazine tube. The receiver features factory engraving of oval panels with the Rampant Colt on the left side and a blank oval panel on the right side. The panels are flanked by floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background. The dust cover has a very similar design with a circle in the center. There is a wedge of floral scroll on the trigger guard, and the receiver and tangs have scallop and simple line bordering. The top barrel flat ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates, and the serial number is on the lower tang. Dovetailed blade front and adjustable rear sporting sights and mounted with a multi-point checkered walnut forearm and smooth straight grip stock with a checkered Colt buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, octagon barrel with the length "Not Listed", "Blue/Nickel frame and magazine", stocks as "wood", factory engraving and that it was shipped as 1 to an individual in Austin, Texas, on January 10, 1888.
Fine. The barrel has a dark patina with some bright edge wear and some light spotting. The magazine tube retains most of the original nickel finish while the receiver retains 40% original nickel finish with some extensive deep dark pitting visible on the lower right side front of frame. The wood has been revarnished some time ago, and shows some scattered minor dents, dings and chips. The forearm checkering is very distinct. The markings and engraving are clear. The action is excellent.
