Description:

This is a very good example of an original WWII British Boys Anti-tank rifle that remains in its original unaltered condition as manufactured by the British Small Arms Factory (BSA) in 1939. The British MK. I antitank rifle was designed in the 1935/36 time frame and is commonly called a "Boys" rifle after its inventor/designer, Captain Boys. These were manufactured in response to the British Ministry's request for a lightweight, man-portable, high-velocity anti-tank rifle. It was adopted by the British Army in 1937 but was overtaken by advancements in tank armor making it somewhat ineffective against the Germans. It was used successfully during the 1940 Russo-Finnish war and again in the Far East against the light armored Japanese tanks. In the late 1950s many of these rifles were converted to .50 BMG for long range sniper use. This example is all original and retains the original receiver, bolt, frame, buttstock, trigger mechanism and complete recoil system. The left front side of the receiver is marked "R.B. MK I" followed by serial number "A 104". The top of the barrel and receiver as well as many of the smaller parts have the various Crown/British proofs along with the Three Stacked Rifles trademark of the BSA Factory. These rifles use a top mounted 10 round, box magazine with the iron-sights offset to the left, very similar to the Bren gun. They have a very unique oil-filled hydraulic buffer on the rear underside of the cradle to help dampen recoil. It has a forward mounted front bipod/support foot with a rear pistol grip assembly with a canvas covered cheekpad on the left side. It also has a hollow aluminum shoulder pad/buttplate plate assembly that doubles as an oil reserve. It is complete with 8 total original box magazines all stored in an original metal storage/carrying case and a khaki colored action/receiver and muzzle cover.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 95% plus of its original British arsenal blue/black type finish remaining overall with the sides of the lower cradle assembly showing some brown patina and minor finish loss. The additional accessories and magazine are in very fine condition. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, weapon which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
