Colt manufactured approximately 100,000 Special Model 1861 rifle-muskets in 1861-1865 under contract for the Union Army as well as state units and for the commercial market. This example has standard markings and features other than the short two band configuration and "19" marked on the buttplate and comb. It is dated "1863" on the lock and barrel and includes a reproduction bayonet with scabbard and hanger.
Good as altered with mostly bright surfaces, some light pitting and patina, scattered scratches and dings, chipping around the lock inlet, and generally crisp markings. Mechanically excellent. The reproduction accessories are near mint.
