These "Sevens Shooter" were manufactured around 1861 to 1863. Total production is estimated at 5,000-8,000 and would have been higher if Smith & Wesson had not sued Moore over his competitive design. These revolvers are known to have been used as privately purchased side arms during the Civil War. They are rare in that in high original condition like this one which has a German silver post front sight, "D. MOORE PATENT. SEPT. 18. 1860" on top of the barrel, scroll engraved and silver plated frame and grip frame, varnished walnut grip, and "19" assembly marks on most of the components including the grip which is marked with the Roman numeral equivalent.
Very fine with 90% of the original silver plating which has taken on a dark bluish aged patina throughout, minor loss of the plating at the edges, 70% plus original blue finish on the barrel, traces of original blue on the cylinder, light gray-brown patina where the finish has flaked off, and minor marks and scratches. The grip is also very fine and has minor edge and handling wear mostly on the edge of the butt. Mechanically excellent.
