The accompanying factory letter lists this revolver with a 5-screw frame, 6 1/2 inch barrel, Patridge front sight, blue finish and checkered walnut grips when it was shipped on October 25, 1954, and delivered to Army/Navy PX Stores, Transportation Officer, Seattle, Washington. According to an included handwritten note on a U.S. Army Seattle Port of Embarkation matchbook, this revolver once belonged to Capt. J. Burris. The revolver has standard S&W markings, adjustable square notch rear sight, and matching numbers on the butt, cylinder, barrel, and right grip panel. Comes with an unnumbered S&W .38/44 Outdoorsman gold box and "Helpful Hints" pamphlet.
Excellent. The revolver retains nearly 98% original blue finish showing some light speckling, a light cylinder drag and some high edge wear. Nearly all of the original case colors remain on the hammer and trigger. Although numbered to the gun, the grips are replacements; the panels do not correctly fit the grip frame, otherwise a hairline crack (left panel) and some wear in the checkering. Mechanically excellent. The box is excellent showing some scattered wear.
