Manufactured without sights on a Mauser Oberndorf Model 98 action with "No. 2472 GRIFFIN & HOWE NEW YORK N.Y." inscribed on top of the barrel, caliber notation on the left side at the breech, and the one-line Mauser Oberndorf address on the left side of the receiver. The receiver ring is engraved in a broad scroll pattern with engraved scope bases, jewelled bolt and follower, finely checkered bolt handle, and scroll engraved floorplate and trigger guard. Multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with ebony forend cap, blue steel grip cap, "JKH" inscribed gold initial oval, and leather wrapped recoil pad. The consignor attributes the rifle to big game hunter and author John Kingsley Heath (1926-2011).
Very fine. 98% original blue finish remains with scattered small scratches and dings, traces of light spotting, and cycling marks on the bolt. The wood is also very fine with crisp checkering and numerous small dings. Mechanically excellent.
