This is an excellent example of an extremely rare Spanish CETME Sport "Model-B" semi-automatic rifle. These early original CETME series of rifle were based on the design developed by the German engineer Ludwig Vorgrimler in 1945 who also used this design to develop the experimental German StG 45(M). The model B rifles use the same type of delayed rolled-block, blowback type mechanism that eventually evolved into an extremely successful and very famous HK91/93 series of rifles. The "B-Model" was one of the very first examples manufactured and imported into the US in the early 1960s. The left side of the magazine well is marked "CETME "SPORT"/B-19558". The bolt carrier is stamped with assembly number "14111" and the front underside of the receiver behind the forearm is stamped "SPAIN", with no visible importer marks. This example has the original military tangent style rear sight that was used on the STG45, that is graduated from 1-10 (100-1000 meters) along with a ghost ring/post front sight. Only the B-Model was fitted with the early style, perforated sheet metal handguard with a barrel mounted folding bipod and carrying handle, along with a with a wooden buttstock. The buttstock is fitted with a serrated rubber recoil pad. The trigger housing is marked on the left side with the two positions "S/F" only. The sheet metal handguard was later replaced with a wooden handguard on the "C-Model" making these early rifles very rare. These early rifles have an all light gray parkerized finish.
Excellent. 98% original gray parkerized/phosphate type finish overall with only very minor edge and high spot wear. The walnut stock is in excellent condition with only some very minor handling marks on the sides. The rifle appears to have only been test fired and is in excellent mechanical condition. This is a very rare example of an early CETME "Model-B" Sporter rifle.
