Description:

This is a nice example of a Colt 1860 Army revolver which falls into the correct 167000-200614 range for the roughly 9,000 Richards conversions conducted in 1871-1878. It is theorized that these late conversions were all based on using up the left over 1860 percussion pistol parts that still remained at the Colt factory. This type of conversion was performed by supplying a new cylinder chambered for the Colt 44 CF cartridge, fitting it with a new cylinder ring in front of the recoil shield and installing a new loading gate on the frame with an internal spring. The loading lever has been replaced with an ejector housing on the right side of the barrel lug and a plug filling the slot in the barrel lug. The conversion breech plate has a firing pin and integral rear sight. The top of the barrel is marked "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-," the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT", and the left side trigger guard shoulder is marked "44 CAL.". The cylinder has the standard naval battle scene and "COLT'S PATENT NO. 0802". The complete matching serial number "190802" is stamped on the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The assembly number "5409" is located only on the loading gate. Comes with a partial box (46) of vintage Winchester 44 Caliber Center Fire Cartridges.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 75% original blue finish remaining, showing scattered flaking and minor scattered spots of pitting overall. The frame, hammer and conversion breech plate retain 85% of the original bright case colors. There is 20% original silver plating remaining on the trigger guard, mainly in protected areas, and an aged patina on the exposed brass. The grip is also very fine with 98% original varnish remaining and showing some very minor lower edge wear and a few minor dents and dings. The ammunition is currently wrapped in cellophane and remains fine with some old tape residue and some staining.
