The included Colt factory letter identifies this revolver by its serial number as "an experimental prototype revolver kept by the Colt factory" which has "Buntline styling as well as new grip frame and composition overlapping grip design". The letter also confirms the caliber, barrel length, blue finish with a "purple color to blue frame due to makeup of steel", checkered hard rubber Rampant Colt/American eagle grips, and furnished without maker/model markings. The grip panels are experimental, which cup over an experimental cast and anodized aluminum alloy grip frame. The ramp serrated blade front sight is secured to the barrel via a single screw and the notch rear sight is adjustable. As confirmed by the factory letter, the revolver is unmarked except for the serial number on the underside of the frame.
Excellent. The revolver retains 98% original blue finish with some minor spotting (mostly on the barrel and cylinder) and some scattered minor scratches. The cylinder has a light drag line. The grip frame retains 95% plus of the anodized finish with some minor scattered minor edge wear along with some factory flaws in the casting and finish. The grips are very fine with some minor handling marks and a minor chip missing near the bottom edge (right panel). The checkering is crisp.
