This Colt Officer's Model Target double action revolver features beautifully executed and deeply cut near full coverage factory floral scroll engraving on a punch dot background. The extensive factory embellishment on this revolver is similar to class C engraving, and the work is factory documented to Colt Master Engraver W.H. Gough. The accompanying factory letter confirms the 6 inch barrel in .38 caliber, blue finish, type of stocks and factory engraving by W.H. Gough. The revolver was shipped to Loan Account, Von Lengerke & Antoine, Chicago, Illinois, on April 20, 1932, and was later purchased by Von Lengerke & Antoine on November 23, 1933. The engraving on this revolver follows intertwined foliate and floral patterns with fine punch dot background. The back strap, hammer spur and trigger are checkered. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line Colt Hartford address/patent dates (1884, 1905 and 1926) inside a panel. "OFFICERS MODEL 38" followed by a Maltese cross is marked on the left side of the barrel amid floral scrollwork. The Rampant Colt is stamped on the left side of the frame surrounded by the engraving. Matching serial numbers are stamped on the yoke and crane. The revolver is fitted with elevation adjustable front and windage adjustable rear sights and grips featuring silver Rampant Colt medallions. Besides the polished hammer sides, the revolver has a blue finish.
Excellent plus. The revolver retains over 99% original blue finish showing traces of a cylinder drag line and barely noticeable spotting on a single cylinder flute. The grips are excellent with very limited mild handling marks and highly attractive color. Mechanically excellent. A highly desirable factory engraved Officer's Model that will make a great addition to any Colt double action revolver collection. A must have for the serious Colt collector!
