Bullard rifles are considered very rare on the collector market today as they were produced only from 1886 to 1890. They competed for sales directly against the Winchester, Marlin and Whitney lever actions rifles which were also produced during this time. This fierce competition really stymied their sales creating a very limited production of Bullard rifles (approximately 10,000 to 12,000). This rifle is a highly desirable deluxe version with nicely figured and checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with hard rubber buttplate. It has dovetailed blade front and folding ladder rear sights, the early three digit serial number stamped behind the hammer, the upper tang factory drilled and tapped for a sight, "Cal/45" marked on top of the receiver at the front, the two-line address/patent information on the left side of the receiver and "Model 1886" marked on the right side of the receiver.
Extremely fine. The receiver and forend cap retains 90% plus bright original high polish blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The barrel and magazine tube retains 40% blue with the balance a crisp brown patina. 60% original vivid case colors remain on the hammer and lever. The wood is very fine showing some minor to moderate dings and scratches and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
