Issued in 1968, this is one of only 25 custom deluxe WWI 2nd Battle of Marne Model 1911 commemorative pistols the Colt factory contracted for engraving and gold inlay exclusively by Master Engraver Alvin White. These pistols are found in the 201M2 to 225M2; meaning that this pistol (201M2) is the first in the 25 unit series. The accompanying factory letter confirms the finish, type of stocks with commemorative medallions, engraving and gold inlays and teak wood comparative case. The pistol was shipped to Cuyahoga Sporting Goods of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, on June 3, 1970. The embellishment incorporates extensive engraved scrollwork, 25k gold inlaid bands on both sides of the slide, an inscribed commemorative banner outlined in gold on the right side of the slide, an engraved battle scene on the left side of the slide and the serial number in gold on the right side of the frame. The right side of the grip frame has Alvin White's gold inlaid signature cartouche.
Excellent overall. 99% plus original blue finish remains and a series of minor handling marks around a grip screw (right panel). Mechanically excellent. The case is near new. One of only 25 highly impressive works of art by Master Engraver Alvin White that will be a superb addition to any Colt semi-automatic pistol collection.
