Description:The model 1 1/2 Second Issue was manufactured from 1868 to 1875. This extremely rare example has 75% plus coverage fine scroll and punch dot engraving by Master Engraver Gustave Young. The left side of the barrel has the one-line address/patent marking. This is the correct marking for the rare short barrel. Standard length barrels have markings on top of the barrel rib. The frame is gold plated, and the remaining surfaces are nickel plated.
Rating Definition:Fine. The barrel and cylinder retain 80% nickel plating, and the frame retains scattered traces of gold plating, otherwise a mottled gray patina. The grips are fine with a couple of missing chips along the edges and very attractive color. The action needs work as the cylinder does not properly lock when cycled. Factory engraved S&Ws by Gustave Young are few and far between and highly sought after.
