OC - FINE- all original parts; over 30% original finish, sharp lettering, numerals and design on metal and wood; minor marks in wood.
Also known as the Type II Richards Conversion, featuring a Model 1860 Army barrel with plugged loading lever slot, hammer with riveted firing pin, conversion breech ring with no provision for a rear sight and a thinner loading gate with external gate spring, while retaining the six-stop Richards conversion cylinder and cross hatched ejector head. Blade front and hammer notch rear sights, with the one line New York address roll stamped on the barrel, the Texas Navy battle scene on the cylinder, two line "-PAT. JULY. 25,1871-/-PAT. JULY. 2.1871.-" patent marks on the frame, and matching full and partial numbers on the barrel lug, frame, loading gate, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap. Finished in nickel overall, with a casehardened hammer and ejector head, blued trigger, silver front strap and one-piece walnut grips.
Very good, with 70% of the original nickel plated finish, showing moderate finish loss and some scattered light pitting on contact points on left side of the barrel and breech ring and on the right side of the barrel at the muzzle and on the side of the ejector. 60% of the original silver finish remains on the trigger guard, with a fine patina on the exposed brass. Strong case colors are visible on the hammer sides and ejector head. The grip is in good overall condition with small chips on both sides of the front and rear edges of the butt, and a set of five notches carved into the left panel. This is a very good example of a rare Colt Richards Model 1860 Army cartridge conversion.
