Constructed from field-gray wool, with silver bullion officers piping and a set of zig-zag machine stitched SS eagle/totenkopf patches on the front. The inner lining is brown cotton twill, with a "58" black ink size stamp and no maker's marks. The cap is attributed by the consignor to the collection of Mike Beaver, author of "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS", and includes a photocopied certificate of authenticity from military dealer Robert Kondor describing it (an another cap, not in this lot) as authentic pre-1945 construction and also authenticating the Beaver connection. Similar eazmple pictured and described in the book "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS" by Beaver. It is rare to find SS Overseas Officer's Caps with zig zag stitching.
Aside from a minor loss of stitching near the front of the lining, the cap is excellent, showing minimal handling and wear. The outer surfaces of the cap have darkened slightly, with the area protected by the folds of the cosmetic ear protector showing a fresher, brighter appearance appropriate to honest age. An excellent Waffen-SS officer's cap
