Manufactured in 1871, the first year of production. A floral scroll Nimschke style engraving on a punch dot background is featured on the barrel sides, frame sides and cylinder. The engraving on the frame incorporates a kidney motif on each side. Engraved geometric line and dot motifs are featured on the top strap and back strap. The top of the barrel is marked "COLTS HOUSE PISTOL/HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." flanked by Maltese crosses. The barrel and cylinder are numbered to the gun. The partitioned case is lined in velvet and holds an empty box of Remington-UMC .41 Shot RF cartridges.
Fine. Traces of aged silver plating remains in the protected areas with the balance between smooth gray patina and attractive aged brass. There is a series of dings on the butt and a few patches of mild pitting. The grips are fine with some minor handling marks and attractive color and grain. Mechanically excellent. The relined case is fair with cracks on the lid and bottom and faded worn lining.
