Description:8,000 Second Model Maynard carbines were purchased by the U.S. government in 1863 to 1865 for use during the Civil War. Among the units issued this model were the 9th and 11th Indiana Cavalry and 11th Tennessee Cavalry. Captured Maynards and the limited numbers purchased before the war were popular with Confederate troops because the metallic cases could be reloaded numerous times before they needed to be replaced. This example has the standard markings and features. The stock has "AJN" and "JM" cartouches and "69" stamped by the buttplate tang.
Rating Definition:Fine with 60% faded original blue finish and traces of original case colors. There is mild pitting and oxidation throughout. The markings remain crisp. The stock is very good with "X" scratches on both sides of the wrist, fairly crisp cartouches, numerous minor scratches and small dings, and some very slight chips/slivers at the edges. Mechanically excellent.
